What are the specifications of a PoE+ switch for Bringme access control?

Choose a PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at Class 4) unmanaged switch. Four points matter when you compare models.

1. PoE+, IEEE 802.3at, Class 4. This standard guarantees at least 25.5 W of usable power to every connected device. A PoE+ port supplies up to 30 W at the switch, of which a minimum of 25.5 W reaches the device. The older PoE standard (IEEE 802.3af) delivers no more than 15.4 W per port, which is not enough. PoE+ is backward compatible with PoE, so devices on the older standard keep working.
2. Enough PoE+ ports, one for every Bringme device. Check the specification sheet, because many switches combine PoE+ ports with ports that carry no power. The sheet should state clearly which ports are PoE+ enabled.
3. A total PoE power budget that equals or exceeds the combined power requirement of all connected devices. Without that margin, devices can lose power when they draw power at the same time.
4. Unmanaged. An unmanaged switch is plug and play and needs no configuration. Bringme access control devices and video communication devices work on it without extra network settings.

What is PoE+?

PoE+ stands for Power over Ethernet Plus. It allows a device to receive both data and power through a single Ethernet cable, so no separate power supply is needed. Class 4 is the power class for devices that draw up to 25.5 W, which covers access control units, video intercoms, cameras, IP phones and wireless access points.
