How to perform a speed test on your network?

🔎 Introduction

If your Bringme Box is down, or only working intermittently, the network connection might be to blame. If you suspect there might be an issue with the internet connection, we recommend performing a speed test. When you report an issue with your Bringme Box to our Help Center and we notice that the connection is not good, we might ask you to perform one as well. This article explains how to go about performing a speed test and how to interpret the results.

📃Answer

  1. Preparation: Use a Laptop with a Cable

    1. Connect your laptop via a network cable (UTP cable) to the same network as the Bringme Box and the Bringme Bell.

    2. Turn off your laptop's Wi-Fi so the connection is only through the cable. This prevents interference from a wireless network during the test.

  2. Open the Speed Test Website
On your laptop, go to: https://librespeed.org.

  3. Start the Speed Test
Click the "Start test" button (or a similar button). The test will automatically start and measure:

    • Download speed: How fast you receive data from the internet.

    • Upload speed: How fast you send data to the internet.

    • Ping: The delay in milliseconds between your laptop and the server.

  4. View the Results
The test only takes a few seconds. You will then see three values:

    • Download: Minimum of 4 Mbps required.

    • Upload: Minimum of 2 Mbps required.

    • Ping: Should be between 10 and 50 ms.

5. What If the Results Are Too Low?

  • Is the download speed lower than 4 Mbps, or the upload speed lower than 2 Mbps? → Contact your internet provider to investigate and resolve the issue.

Why This Test Is Important

The Bringme Box and Bringme Bell require a stable and sufficiently fast internet connection. If the speed is too low or the connection is unstable, it may cause disruptions or delays in the use of these devices.
